October 2012. What started off as a short rant, somehow went longer and longer the deeper I went. A company is now taking the claim of a Muslim or Islamic Golden Age to extremes. This company is launching a broad attack on children and unsuspecting adults in the form of propaganda using deception, marketing and lies. It seems to pay a lot better outputting deception and making dishonest, misleading claims than working as a professor or researching as a scientist. Recipients of this propaganda and visitors of the exhibitions don’t check anything and are generally being caught for suckers. This includes President Obama the same way as his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the British Prime Minister or HRH Prince Charles. While I openly acknowledge the huge advances Arab researchers made during their Golden Age I strongly condemn the claims there were any significant developments or inventions made during that era. Muslims did NOT invent a camera, algebra or an aeroplane. They advanced optics, mathematics or physics, but did not revolutionise anything. This propaganda, which reminds me of the lies used during the Communist era, does nothing to further the acceptance of Islam and its dogma. It shows to what extremes Muslims will go, only to score a few sympathy points with non-Muslims. I urge everyone to apply a basic set of rational thinking and scepticism when listening to the claims and please check for yourself, whether they really apply and represent any kind of major advancement. Who developed algebra, Trigonometry, our numeral system and the concept of Zero to give basis for the European scientific revolution? Despite some common wisdom misinformation it was mostly Hindu and Jain Mathematicians. The Brahmi numerals, a numeral system attested from the 3rd century India, was the base for Hindu numeral system used by Indian mathematician such as Aryabhata and Brahmagupta. Aryabhata (476–550 CE) - a Hindu astronomer used the digit zero in his calculations, and calculated pi to accuracy of 5 figures. Brahmagupta (598–670 CE) - a Hindu mathematician and astronomer, was the first to give rules to compute with zero, Brahmagupta wrote books on math and astronomy, discussing algebra including giving a full solution to the quadratic equation (Ax^2 + Bx + C). The Indian mathematical text Surya Prajnapti (3rd–4th century BCE) and the works of the Jain Monk Yativrsabha (500-570 CE) describe the concept of infinity. The mathematical Bakhshali Manuscript (3th century CE) describes negative numbers. Varāhamihira (505–587 CE) - described the algebraic properties of negative numbers, and discovered trigonometric formulas such as sin^2x + cos^2x = 1. Bhāskara (600 –680 CE) - gave a rational approximation of the sine function Only the later Madhava of Sangamagrama (1340-1425 CE) - gave more accurate approximations to the sine function (since Bhāskara) and to the Pi (since Aryabhata) - correct to 17 decimal places. So, my question is, Why are Indian historians so silent when their civilization achievements in math (3rd – 7th century) are “borrowed” to support the vocal Islamic “golden age” narrative (8th -12th century)? This info is not just trivia, the golden age myth is used to assert the notion that Islam doesn’t need a progressive reformation and instead calls to step back into its glorious past, before it was “hijacked by the extremists”.

Tiny changes justified which take away from us to give to those who are supposed to serve. When my trance had been broken, and I started to look at the world through a critical eye, I started to see the lies we were being told and sold. It was crazy to me what we had come to accept in life. That the rich are allowed to get richer while the poor become poorer. Christians who believed in charity would vote for those who vow to get rid of welfare programs. That we would live in places where smog hangs over our heads and chokes us in our sleep and deny that pollution is a problem we should curb. The effect seemed to be that while we would fight for a while for what we believed to be right: in time we would give up as apathy would set in, or another tragedy would happen just in time to take our attention away from what was important to us just days ago. The will to fight wanes due to the fact that even terrifying truths can be seen as normal through time and exposure. I saw all of this through those new eyes.

And one of the guests Josh Waitzkin, who never does any media, can I curse on this? He always texts me with profanity laden SMSs because I'm the only one who can pull him out of his cave to do media. But he is best known perhaps as the chest prodigy, and I'll explain why I put that in air quotes, besides how funny it looks on camera, that formed the basis or who formed the basis for Searching for Bobby Fischer, both the book and the movie. He was a very well known chess player and continues to be an incredible chess player. But he has applied his learning framework to more than chess. So he was a world champion in tai chi push hands, he was the first black belt in Brazilian jujitsu under the phenom probably the best of all time Marcelo Garcia, who trains in New York City and he's a nine-time world champion something like that. And he's now tackling paddle surfing and he can apply it to just about anything. He works with some of the top financial mines in the world, hedge fund managers and beyond, the best of the best; top one percent. So, why? What are the principles that he shares? One of them is creating empty space, cultivating empty space as a way of life, and these are all tied together so I'll mention another one. Learning the macro from the micro and then beginning with the end in mind. And these all work together. So I'll explain in fact the last two first. Josh learned to play chess or I should say more accurately was coached by his first real coach in the opposite direction when compared to most training and most chess books. He was taught in reverse. What does that mean? He began with the end game and with very few pieces. So they cleared all the pieces off the board, instead of starting with openings, meaning what do you do first the first five to ten moves, he started with the ending game with king and pawn versus king. What does this do? Well this forces you to focus on principles like opposition, creating space, zugzwang, which is a principle of forcing your opponent to do anything that will destroy their position or anything they can possibly do will worsen their position. This scenario is quite common among those who have achieved even the highest benchmarks in business, athletics, or art, says Adam Alter, and it's because the goal setting process is broken. With long-term goals particularly, you spend the large majority of the time in a failure state, awaiting what could be a mere second of success down the track. This can be a hollow and unrewarding process. Alter suggests swapping quantitative goals (I will write 1,000 words of my novel per day. I will run 1km further every week) for qualitative systems—like writing every morning with no word target, or running in a new environment each week—that nourish you psychologically, and are independently rewarding each time you do them. This is the way a goal works: You say to yourself, “When I achieve (whatever the thing is), that's how I'll know I'll have succeeded, and I'm going to do everything I can to get to that point as quickly as possible.” What that means is you exist in a failure state for a long time until you reach that goal, if it's a long-range goal. And so as you evaluate your process all you get is the negative feedback of not having achieved that goal. Perhaps as you move closer to it there's some positive feedback, but if the goal is really the end state that you're seeking out, there's a lot of failure before you get there. And now here's the thing: when you do get there it's a massive anti-climax. So there are people who achieve the highest highs; people who achieve the highest highs in athletics, in business, and if you talk to them and you ask them to describe what it's like to reach their goals they say things like, “I got there and it was an incredible anti-climax. The minute I got there I had to start something new, I had to find a new goal.” And that's partly because there's something really unsatisfying about the moment of reaching the goal. Unless it has its own benefits that come from reaching the goal, if it's just a sort of signpost; that doesn't do much for us, it doesn't nourish us psychologically. And what that ends up meaning is that we have to try to find something new. So really if you look at life as a series of goals, which for many of us it is, it's a period of being unsuccessful in achieving the goal, then hitting the goal, then feeling like you haven't really got much from that goal, going to the next one—and it's a sort of series of escalating goals. A really good example of this is, say, smart watches or Fitbits or exercise watches. People, when they get those watches, a lot of them hit on the number 10,000. “I want to walk 10,000 steps.” When you do that, the thing will beep; you'll feel pretty good about it for a minute but then that feels a little hollow and the goal escalates over time. People will describe going from 10 to 11 to 12 to 14,000 steps to the point where they're moving through injuries, through stress-related injuries, because the goal is there; they respond to the goal more than they do to their internal cues, and basically there's something really unfulfilling about that. The reason the goal keeps escalating and becoming more and more intense is because when they achieve the goal they don't actually get anything for that achievement, and so goals, generally I think, are in many ways broken processes. I think part of the problem with goals is that they don't tell you how to get to where you're going. A better thing to do is to use a system. So the idea behind a system rather than a goal is that a system is saying things like, “I’m a writer, my goal is to finish writing this book but I'm not going to think about it in that way. Eventually I'll have 100,000 words, but my system will be that for an hour every morning I will sit in front of my computer screen and I will type. It doesn't matter what that looks like. I'm not going to evaluate the number of words. I'm not going to set some benchmark, some artificial number or benchmark that I should reach, what I'm going to do is just say, 'Here's my system: an hour a day in front of the screen. I'll do what I can—bam.'”

"On Monday’s BBC Daily Politics, a spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain – Miqdaad Versi – chose to leap right on in and name me as a hate preacher who should not be allowed to speak in public. I am quite certain that there is no score-settling going on here. I’m sure that this statement has nothing to do with the MCB’s ongoing bitterness about being barred from engagement with the British government – a stance which has held since one of the MCB’s leaders signed a declaration approving of attack on British ships. And I’m sure that Miqdaad’s strange equation of me with the jailed preacher Anjem Choudary has nothing to do with my previous calling out of his own penchant for dodgy facts. Later on Monday the BBC allowed it to happen again. The BBC chose to interview Massoud Shadjareh about the previous night’s terror attack in Finsbury Park. Mr Shadjareh is one of the leaders of the Islamic Human Rights Commission. The IHRC is a group which, as I have said here before, is ‘farcically misnamed’. In his brief vox pop Shadjareh made sure to get straight down to business, swiftly naming the Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz and yours truly as ‘hate preachers’ who must be silenced. Again, I am sure that Mr Shadjareh was not just settling scores. Today the BBC has been forced to interrupt their news broadcasts to issue a formal apology to me for allowing their guest to defame me on air earlier this week. It follows a similar apology the BBC has had to issue to Maajid Nawaz. I am grateful to the BBC for correcting the record and apologising for their terrible error. For me this closes that episode. But it does not change the bigger picture in which it becomes increasingly clear that the far-left and their allies in Britain are prepared to do and say absolutely anything in order to win. I am sorry for that. But in response I will not become so irresponsible as to pretend that everyone who does not agree with me is a criminal and a terrorist. I am sorry that my critics have decided to adopt a lower standard of their own". Jerusalem was captured by caliph Omar only in 638 c.e., six years after Muhammad's death. Throughout all this time there were only churches in Jerusalem, and a church stood on the Temple Mount, called the Church of Saint Mary of Justinian, built in the Byzantine architectural style (the mosques shapes you commonly see today are a copy of Byzantine architectural style Churches !, you didn't know that did ya?) 'In the Book of Raids, early Muslim historian and biographer "Waqidi"(أبو عبد الله محمد بن عمر بن واقد ‏) described Muhammad's stay in the village of Jiranah a few miles outside Mecca. He wrote: The Prophet arrived in Jiranah on Thursday, and remained 13 nights. He then departed Jiranah after praying at the Al-Aqsa="Further Mosque" located on the shore of the river bed. The Prophet used to pray there whenever he came to Jiranah.' Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiya (AD 638-700), a close relative of Muhammad, have said, denigrating the notion that the prophet of Islam ever set foot on the Rock in Jerusalem; 'these damned Syrians,' by which he means the Umayyads, 'pretend that Allah put His foot on the Rock in Jerusalem, though one person ever put his foot on the rock, namely Abraham.' ... and it's kinda funny to me that the Quran doesn't mention the fakestinians or jerusalem even once ! ! ! but the israelis many times ! يَا قَوْمِ ادْخُلُوا الْأَرْضَ الْمُقَدَّسَةَ الَّتِي كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَلَا تَرْتَدُّوا عَلَىٰ أَدْبَارِكُمْ فَتَنقَلِبُوا خَاسِرِينَ: " and now, my people (the Israelites), enter the Holy Land which Allah has destined for you.
