How a stutterer found a voice: Rashad Nimr at TEDxGreensFarmsAcademy
Rashad Nimr has been half-Palestinian since he was born, stuttering since he was three, and openly gay since he was thirteen. He has traveled to Jordan every summer since the age of six to visit family, where he has had the opportunity to work with Save the Children in both Palestinian and Iraqi refugee camps. At Greens Farms Academy, Rashad has been the pitch of the all-male a cappella group, the Beachside Express. He also helped to found and lead an online, safe, supportive, social network for the LGBTQIA high schoolers of the greater Fairfield county area. He graduated from GFA in June 2013. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
