Aldous Huxley (1958)
With the global political climate of 2019 nearing a revolutionary clash between old and new guards, most are or have become familiar with George Orwell's 1949 novel "1984" - a picture of a dystopian future ruled by fear, censorship, and oppression. Though still a titan in the literary world, lesser known in pop-culture is Aldous Huxley - author of 1931 dystopian novel "Brave New World," presaging Orwell by almost two decades - and, oh yeah - former teacher of Orwell's at Eton College. Where Orwell imagined a society controlled by a spy state, Huxley first imagined a society controlled by its decadence. As Neil Postman wrote: "In short, Orwell feared that what we hate would ruin us.
